Call for image filter referendum
ännerenThe Wikimedia Foundation, at the direction of the Board of Trustees, will be holding a vote to determine whether members of the community support the creation and usage of an opt-in personal image filter, which would allow readers to voluntarily screen particular types of images strictly for their own account.
Further details and educational materials will be available shortly. The referendum is scheduled for 12-27 August, 2011, and will be conducted on servers hosted by a neutral third party. Referendum details, officials, voting requirements, and supporting materials will be posted at Meta:Image filter referendum shortly.
Sorry for delivering you a message in English. Please help translate the pages on the referendum on Meta and join the translators mailing list.

Hello everyone.
It is sometimes seen that a user uploads text or files on Wikipedia saying "I have a permission from the author". Wikimedia has OTRS to archive these permissions in. More info on link mentioned before and on en:Wikipedia:Volunteer Response Team.
The benefits of such a system is:
- We can make sure there is a valid permission.
- Author did give a permission.
- Author agreed to a specific license.
- Author knows what it means to upload a file under a free license. Sometimes users think that "Oh it is ok to use it on Wikipedia" but they do not realise that the file can also be used commercially by everyone.
- We have the permission forever and can acces it if it should be relevant later.
- Even if the uploader leaves Wikipedia we still have the permission.
- Professional backup and protection against virus and data loss.
- When we use a formal system for all permission we do not have to deside who we can trust and who we can not trust. We simply asks everyone if they could send the permission to us.
We could either create a lb-wiki mail adress on OTRS or we could use the excisting one for Commons. I think the best would be to use the one for Commons. It would however be nice if a few users that understand Lëtzebuergesch would join the team so users could write to OTRS in Lëtzebuergesch.
You can check Commons:Template:No permission since for more information. It shows the current text used on Commons for all files where a permission is wanted. It should be easy to make a local version to use on lb-wiki with a short text asking:
"Could you please forward email communication granting permission to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org so the permission could be archived in our permission system OTRS?"
There is also a link to a standard permission. A version in Lëtzebuergesch would also be nice.
To begin with permission could be requested for all new files. Later we can slowly go back and ask uploaders of older files if they still have the permission and if they would be kind to send it to OTRS. --MGA73 14:20, 7. Jun. 2011 (UTC)
- I got once a permission by driving personally to the father of the holder of the author's rights, who called then his son in my presence. There is no email proof and there never will be one. But you can send me an email if you need a witness at a Court case concerning that photo. --Otets ♣ 14:51, 7. Jun. 2011 (UTC)
- :-) But the problem with that is that once you are not here anymore we no longer have a witness. --MGA73 18:28, 7. Jun. 2011 (UTC)
- Even at times where I will be on a further wiki-break, my email address will still work, and I do not yet plan to die ;-)) But seriously, maybe in such case an email from the interlocutor testifying on the conversation with the author might suffice? --Otets ♣ 11:25, 8. Jun. 2011 (UTC)
- Concerning the translations of templates I put a request on Commons:Commons_talk:Email_templates#Translation_of_Email_templates as according to my experience on trnaslatewiki this would multiply to number of translations of such templates and texts please have as well a look at a bugzilla issue opened in this context for trnaslations on meta. I will continue to concentrate my translation efforts on translatewiki, which is by far the most userfriendly system to do this!. --Robby 06:34, 8. Jun. 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry about the late response. I'm not sure that the translation will be made in translatewiki. But is someone would like to make a translation it could be added here Commons:Commons:Email templates/Consent/lb. English text can be found here Commons:Commons:Email_templates. You can also help by translating Commons:Commons:OTRS.
- It would also be nice if one or more users that speak Lëtzebuergesch would volunteer on ORTS. Check m:OTRS/volunteering for more info. --MGA73 21:36, 23. Jul. 2011 (UTC)
Lizenzdiskussiounen op Englesch
ännerenEch géng jo nawell och gär op "Wikipedia a Lëtzebuerger Sprooch" matschwätzen, mä leider verstinn ech net genug Englesch. Ass dat net schuet? --Pecalux 06:14, 8. Jun. 2011 (UTC)
- Ganz richteg esou Diskussioune sinn ëmmer schwiereg well dacks all Wuert op d'Goldwo geluecht gëtt an dofir gëtt dat ëmsou méi schwiereg wann esou eng Diskussioun an der zweeter, drëtter, véierter,... Sprooch déi e schwätzt (schreift) gemaach gëtt. --Robby 06:38, 8. Jun. 2011 (UTC)
- Moien, de Pecalux huet natierlech recht mam Verstoen; de Probleem ass, datt den MGA73, deen eis vill wäertvoll Hëllef bréngt, selwer kee Lëtzebuergesch kann, an et dofir fir Diskussioune mat him schwéier anescht geet wéi op Englesch. Du kanns och allzäit gären op Lëtzebuergesch matdiskutéieren (ech - oder soss ee - giff da wann néideg eng Zesummefaassung op englesch maachen, wann et fir den MGA relevant ass). Hei driwwer geet et drëms, wéi mat deene Biller ze fueren ass, bei deenen een net selwer de Fotograf ass, fir sécherzestellen, datt de Fotograf averstanen ass mat enger Publikatioun ënner enger fräier Lizenz. Op Commons ass et esou, datt den Autueur (oder Ayant-droits) eng E-mail un eng bestëmmeten Adress (OTRS) schéckt, fir säin Averständnis ze ginn. D'Diskussioun dono geet drëms, wat ee wou iwwersetze misst, fir dat och vun hei aus z'erméiglechen. --Zinneke 08:44, 8. Jun. 2011 (UTC)
Yes it would be best to discuss in "a Lëtzebuerger Sprooch" and I'm sorry for not doing that. But I cannot write in that language. It would take me very long time and the result would most likely be hard to understand and in best cast funny and in worst case misleading and insulting. You are most welcome to write in Lëtzebuergesch and I hope someone will help translate my English if needed. Once there is a conclusion or questions for me I hope someone will "poke" me with a small note in English. --MGA73 10:39, 8. Jun. 2011 (UTC)
Hi! Just a notice that I created {{Information}} to add on files. If the file is own work you can also use {{Self}} and {{Own}}. Information template makes it easier to transfer files to Commons so that is why the names are in English. But it can also be used on fair use files if you think it looks better. --MGA73 13:47, 24. Jul. 2011 (UTC)
For FU, it misses the field "EDP-Richtlinn". --Otets ♣ 08:48, 26. Jul. 2011 (UTC)
- Yes it is best for free files. For FU it would be better to add a template like en:Template:Non-free_use_rationale. --MGA73 08:54, 26. Jul. 2011 (UTC)
- That template requires much more info. I guess, priority belongs to first add the "EDP-Richtlinn" to the thousands of FU files of the first years which do not yet indicate it. --Otets ♣ 08:57, 26. Jul. 2011 (UTC)
- I agree that "priority" is the key word. There is much more work to do than we can possibly do this year and next year and... so I think the best would be to make sure that all new files live up to best practice and then slowly take the old files when there is time. On Danish Wikipedia we had someone watch all new uploads and fix the problems or inform the uploaders if there were problems. It makes the number of mistakes lower and make the chance of errors getting fixed much higher if files are checked at once. Old files can be taken if we edit them any way of if we notice a copyvio or a useless file (unused, bad resolution etc.). You are welcome to improve the template but I would appriciate it if it it does not make the transfer of free files to Commons harder :-) --MGA73 09:17, 26. Jul. 2011 (UTC)
Suggestions to change upload form and PD-license

Fundraiser 2011 translation
ännerenHi! I am Jon Harald Søby, and I work for the Wikimedia Foundation during the 2011 fundraiser. I am looking for people who can help coordinating the translations into Luxembourgish for this year's fundraiser. The coordinator task is to help find translators and quality checkers, and make sure the translations are done in time. If you want to help out with coordinating, translating or quality checking, add your name to this list or send me an e-mail at jsoby@wikimedia.org. Jsoby 17:28, 17. Aug. 2011 (UTC)
Wiki Loves Monuments
änneren(sorry for posting this in English. If someone wants to translate it, please feel free.)
Hello all,
Some of you might have heard already about Wiki Loves Monuments, a cultural heritage photography contest organized throughout Europe in 2011. So far, there are over 15 countries participating! It would be great to see also participation from luxembourg. That is why we sent around this email. Are you interested in getting this going in Luxembourg? Please let us know! A lot of work is already done (regarding list creation), so it should still be possible, but there is still work coming up.
Most importantly, there would be some work in communication, finding partners and preparing the website. The results of such a contest could be more participants being aware of lb.wikipedia, more people in Luxembourg aware of free licenses and people having a great time - of course besides the wonderful images! Please let us know if you are interested, and join the international mailing list for this topic - see [1].
You can find more information about Wiki Loves Monuments on Wikimedia Commons:
Problems are there to be overcome: Since there is no chapter, you could collaborate with a chapter in another country (Germany, France, Netherlands) or collaborate through an existing Lux Open Source organization that you are familiar with (if at all) or even without a formal organization at all! In Romania and Belarus we are facing similar situations.
I look forward to hopefully positive replies. With kind regards, Effeietsanders 16:04, 25. Jun. 2011 (UTC)
- Hi effeietsanders,
- We are of course aware of the WLM Project and have prepared our Wiki accordingly (100+ lists of municipalities detailing all the classified monuments have been set up and filled to the best of knowledge (i.e. what the official list indicates).
- However, as I explained before to Multichill, we have neither an associative structure, nor the manpower, to properly organise a contest in Luxembourg. However, this should not prevent WLM-projects in other languages (notably those from neighbouring countries) to cover Luxembourg as well - there is no exclusive franchise here ;-). So colleagues from other WLM-countries/languages: feel free to include Luxembourg in "your" territorial areas, by linking to our lists and inviting "your" public to contribute with pictures from monuments in Luxembourg as well.
- Met beste groeten,
- --Zinneke 14:49, 11. Jul. 2011 (UTC)
- Hallo alle, Hello all,
- Is it maybe an idea to join the Belgian organisation of Wiki Loves Monuments? Currently users from nl-wiki and from fr-wiki, in cooperation with Wikimedia Netherlands and Wikimedia France, are working on the organisation of Wiki Loves Monuments in Belgium. I think with working together we can have competition in belgium together with Luxemburg. Our current schedule is to organize four things:
- arrange prices (Wikimedia France said they want to sponsor those)
- arrange a jury (some people from Flanders, some from Walloon, and then also some from Luxemburg, maybe 1 or 2 people each?)
- create website in different languages (German, Dutch and French would be covered as in Belgium the people speak those three languages), we already have someone who will create the website
- and to get media attention in each language in each area.
- These are the current preparations we are working on. Please understand, in my opinion you already have the most important thing: the lists with the monuments: Wikipedia:WikiProjet National Monumenter. Are you interested in participating and willing to help a bit? (especially with making it known to the media in september in Luxemburg) Please mention it below, individual contributors are mostly welcome! Greetings - Romaine 12:41, 20. Jul. 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Romaine,
- Moien alleguer,
- In my view, it would be great if users from nl- and fr-wiki who cover Belgium could also include Luxembourg. As I wrote above, we simply are too few to organise a fully fledged contest and organise anything much going beyond setting up the pages here on lb:wiki (I'll finish the categories on Commons in the days to come). I'm willing to help in the coming 2 weeks but will have little internet access during 2-3 weeks in August. For participation in a jury, it would in my view not be essential for a wikipedian from lb:wiki to participate - pictures are independent from language, aren't they? But of course, if there is someone interested, all the better!
- Ech sinn uganks/mëtt August zu Lëtzebuerg; ka mech gäer mat intresséierte Leit zesummesetzen, fir ze poteren, ob a wéi ee lëtz. Medien dorp opmierksam maache kéinnt. Schreift mer dofir eng Mail. --Zinneke 20:21, 24. Jul. 2011 (UTC)
- Great!!
- Of course the pictures are independent from language, but I think it is good to have the jury geographically spread, as the participants are as well. If one or more users from lb-wiki participate, it is in my opinion a better participation. With the organization of the contest the thing we need help with is with writing to the media in Luxembourg, at the end of August and in September. Also it would be great if someone from lb-wiki would like to participate in the jury in October. But, it is good to hear! Lets organize! Greetings - Romaine 21:26, 24. Jul. 2011 (UTC)
Website is finished: http://www.wikilovesmonuments.be - Romaine 01:42, 28. Aug. 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Romaine, fantastic, looks great! Would it still be possible to add a translation in Luxembourgish? If yes, how should I upload the texts/to whom should I send them? Also, I tried to edit a few minor issues (e.g. replace 'municipalités' by 'communes' in the french version) but the site seems to be protected.
- Beste groeten, --Zinneke 10:54, 29. Aug. 2011 (UTC)

- Gutt gesinn... d'Klassifikatioun geet esou, vun uewen no ënnen:
- Klass: Reptiller
- Uerdnung: Schuppereptiller (Squamata)
- Ënneruerdnung: de:Leguanartige (Iguania)
- Familljen: Leguanen (Iguanidae) - Agamen (Agamidae) - Chamäleonen (Chamaeleonidae) an nach e puer aner Familljen.
- Doraus ergëtt sech, datt
- d'Kat.
- an d'Kat.

Jul. 2011 (UTC)
- Lëtzebuergesch ass jo u sech keng Regional- mee eng Landessprooch. September 2011) net disponibel. Mee interessant kéint et fir lb-wiki trotzdem sinn, just ween dohi kéint goen ass eng aner Saach. --Otets ♣ 02:17, 22. Jul. 2011 (UTC)
- Fir mech läit dat och net dran. Och wann et intressant wier, sech auszetausche mat aneren, déi strukturell änlech Contrainten hunn (Mataarbechterzuel, 'Konkurrenz' vu grousse Sproochen, etc. --Zinneke 20:21, 24. Jul. 2011 (UTC)

Wann deen een oder anere vun hinnen 2 Minutten Zäit hätt, kéinnt e vläit hei e kuerze Resumé a Stéchwieder (falls net schonn alles am Artikel steet) maachen, virun allem, wat fir Conclusiounen aus deem Echange mat anere "klenge" Wikien ze zéie wieren. --Zinneke 08:12, 16. Sep. 2011 (UTC)
- Op der Wikiconvention zu Nürnberg gouf et een Atelier (Reunioun oder wéi een et nenne wëllt) wou Vertrieder vu verschiddene klenge Wikien sech getraff hunn. Am Artikel op deen hei driwwer verlinkt ass steet eigentlech alles dra wat do gesot gouf. D'Reunioun huet sech dorop konzentréiert datt déi verschidde Wikien sech virgestallt hunn, woubäi déi meescht d'Haaptgewiicht op hir Sprooch(e) geluecht hunn, wou dacks de Problem besteet datt et guer keng 'offiziell' Richtlinne fir Orthographie an/oder Grammatek gëtt. Et gouf och näischt festgehal wéi een an Zukunft zesummeschaffe kéint. Dofir war d'Zäit ze kuerz. An engem anere Workshop (allerdengs ouni lëtzebuergesch Vertrieder) gouf doriwwer diskutéiert ob een net een EU Wikimedia Chapter (nationale Veräin dee vu Wikimedia unerkannt ass) fir déi kleng Wikien grënne sollt. Dobäi ass och d'Méiglechkeet undiskutéiert ginn ob esou e Veräin net säi Sëtz zu Lëtzebuerg kéint hunn, vu datt et nëmmen e Wikimedia Chapter pro Land gi soll (oder esouguer däerf(?)). Awer och do gouf nëmme ganz kuerz doriwwer geschwat an et gouf keng Decisioun geholl. --Robby 16:27, 19. Sep. 2011 (UTC)

(Sorry for posting in English.) We are organising an international meet-up of Germans, Belgians and Dutch people in Aachen, but the Luxemburgers are also welcome of course.
